This newest online offering emphasizes critical cooperation between departments, and a team approach to achieve the common goal of protecting collections of all types.
The objective is for Security Management to gain a more clear understanding of collections concerns, and for Collections Managers to help enhance collaboration between departments.
Topics to be covered include:
- Preventive Conservation of Collections
- Collections Considerations in Opening & Closing Procedures
- Accessing Collections
- Handling Objects
- Collections in Emergency Response Plan
- Collections on Exhibit and Internal Transit
For most museums, collections are the reason they are in business. “Front of the house” activities, such as exhibits and programs, cannot exist without the collections and the duties conducted in the “back of the house.” All staff, including security and facilities personnel, have a part to play in the care of collections. While the tasks of documenting, storing, exhibiting, and the preventive conservation of the collections are primarily the responsibilities of the collections staff, these staff members cannot do their job without the rest of the staff understanding what is involved.
